U.S. Senator Edward Kennedy, a prominent figure in the Democratic Party, died in his Hyannis Port home, Massachusetts, at age of 77.
Edward Kennedy was the brother of President John F. Kennedy.
Kennedy was diagnosed with brain cancer after suffering a seizure at the Kennedy compound on Cape Cod in May of last year, and he underwent brain surgery at Duke University Medical Center two weeks later.
President Barack Obama said Wednesday that the nation lost "the greatest United States senator of our time" with the death of Ted Kennedy.
